Artilier is shaped by two people: one who has spent over a decade making things, and one who designs the interiors those things go into. Every artwork, drawing and specification passes through both.
Ankit brings over a decade of experience in custom manufacturing from New Delhi, with deep knowledge of materials, construction and production. He works on what a design will take to make — yarn, construction, knot count, pile, sampling, costing and quality control — and stays on it from the first drawing to the finished rug.
The intelligence of making.
Payal is an interior designer by profession and brings a spatial and design-led perspective to Artilier, particularly around colour, material, proportion, pattern and how pieces ultimately live within interiors. She leads the studio's design direction — the collection, colourways and the development of bespoke artwork.

Which construction a design wants is a technical decision, not a style one. We make the recommendation from the artwork, the detail it carries, the traffic it will take and the budget — and prove it in sampling before production.
Knot by knot on the loom
Traditional hand-knotting for high-detail, high-density rugs. The finest definition, the longest lead time, and the construction that carries painterly artwork best.
Tufted to the drawing
A more flexible construction for certain designs, textures and project requirements — carving, mixed pile heights and loop-and-cut surfaces, at a shorter lead time.
Low profile, woven flat
Low-profile woven rugs suited to specific applications and design requirements — lighter, reversible in some constructions, and a different surface underfoot.

Knot by knot on the loom
The loom is dressed, the design mapped to the warp, then knotted row by row — months of work on a large piece — before clipping, washing and stretching.

The design is traced onto the backing cloth, tufted yarn by yarn, then latexed, backed, sheared and carved to bring the drawing out of the pile.
Hand-tufted designs →Woven flat, no pile
Warp dressed on the loom and weft beaten in by hand, so the structure itself carries the design — then edges bound and the rug washed and finished.
Flatweave designs →The named designs — 15 hand-knotted, 12 hand-tufted, 10 flatweave and 8 other techniques — sit on the collection pages, each woven to order in any dimension.
The heart of the studio. Send artwork, a painting, a CAD file, a colour scheme, a reference image or a floor plan, and we develop it into a finished rug — construction, yarn, colour, scale and finish worked out with you, then proved in a sample before production.

Custom dimensions are not an add-on — every rug is made to order. Custom colourways are developed against your scheme, and samples are available for approval before production.
Yarn decides how a rug reads long before the colour does — how light moves across the pile, how the surface wears, how sharply a detail holds. We select and blend for the design and the application, not from a standard menu.
Yarn, spin and dye lot are approved in the hand against your scheme before a loom is set. Where a material is unsuitable for the traffic a room will take, we say so.
The finished rug matters. So does how it came into being — the loom, the knot, the shears, the hand that decides when a pile is right.
A hand-made rug is made by people, not machines. We work carefully to the agreed artwork, dimensions, materials and finish — and at the same time, natural yarn and human hands leave their own trace. Small differences in weave, pile and colour are part of what makes a hand-made rug individual.
We don't try to remove that character. We try to make sure it is intentional and considered.
Handmade does not mean careless. A defect is a defect — it is not dismissed as character.
Six stages, adapted to the rug. Some commissions move quickly; others need more development. We keep the process transparent, with approvals and progress updates at the stages that matter.
Costing and lead times become more precise as the artwork, construction, materials and sampling requirements are understood. Hand-made production can vary with construction, yarn availability and loom capacity — we communicate changes as they arise.
